Staff

Jeff Browning is our Lead Pastor.  He and wife, Ginny, came to us in October, 1989 from a ten year ministry in Grayville, IL.  Jeff grew up in Findlay, IL, just south of Decatur.  He is a 1977 graduate of Johnson University in Knoxville, TN and completed a post-graduate degree in Christian Ministry from Kentucky Christian University in 1996.  Jeff and Ginny have three grown children–Ben, Tim (Emily) and Julie (Austin) Gohn–as well as six precious grandchildren: Percy, Abram, Calvin, Willie, Ralph and Levi.  Jeff also enjoys being a school bus driver for Washington School District #52.  He is an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and loves to play golf.


Ben Dial is our Youth Minister and came to Washington Christian Church in 2018. He and wife, Katie, grew up in central Illinois. Ben is a graduate of Lincoln Christian University in Christian Ministry and is a man of many interests, including the outdoors, video games, and Star Wars.  Best said in his words: “I am a farm grown, sport loving, force sensitive (Star Wars), Superhero smashing, Jesus loving Youth Minister! Man, I love my job!”


Darrin Akin serves as our Minister of Worship & Administration.  He and his wife, Sandra, moved to Washington in March 2019, following a 22-year ministry in Yuma, AZ.  Darrin has also served at churches in Danville, KY and Lincoln, IL.  He grew up in Donovan, IL, and Sandy hails from Louisville, IL.  Darrin earned a B.A. in Music Ministry (1992) and an M.A. in Pastoral Care & Counseling (2008) at Lincoln Christian University.  In 2014, he received a Doctor of Worship Studies degree from The Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies in Jacksonville, FL.  He and Sandy have four sons—Jonathan, Andrew, Joseph & Garrett—as well as three granddaughters: Autumn, Ariel & Emery.


Mary Fisher had been our church Office Administrator since 1996. Mary and her husband, Jim, were married in 1975 and have been members of Washington Christian Church since 1979. Longtime Washington residents, Jim and Mary raised three daughters: Jamie (Mark) Thurman, Lindsey (Andrew) Hanes, and Laura Fisher (deceased). They also have six wonderful grandchildren: Katelyn (Thurman) Kramer & Grace Thurman and Isaac, Zachary, Micah, & Abigail Hanes; and two adorable great-grandchildren, Riley and Raelyn Kramer. In addition to her grandkids, Mary’s interests include card making and watching the Cubs.
